Barcelona invests in sustainable heritage conservation

The contract requires strict conditions on the contractors, namely to  

• Use natural-based materials  
• Reuse wood and recycle materials 
• Pay the workers and restorers above the minimum wage in their sector 

This initiative is going to allow for the restoration of sculptures, fountains and monuments in the city. As a result:  

• Heritage preservation becomes more sustainable, both environmentally and economically 
• Labour conditions in the sector will be improved.
